I recently got my hands on a Performa 6118CD with an 80MHz 601, 2GB HD, 72MB RAM, etc..., which system profiler recognises as a Power Macintosh 6100/80. I installed System 7.5.3 on it twice now, once normally and another time with a universal system for any macintosh, and both times when I try to boot from it I get an error saying "This startup disk will not work on this Macintosh Model...blah blah blah"...and it IS booting off that HD, and there are no disks or CDs in the drives.

I need to get 7.5.x running...any ideas??

Dude.. you are on the wrong forum.

Anyway, I have the Performa 6116CD here running Mac OS 9.1 tho.

I assumed that you are missing the enabler.

Wrong forum indeed!

The Performa 61xx models don't need an enabler when using System 7.5.3 so don't worry about that.

What kind of CD are you using to install the system? Was it originally designed for a certain model or series? If so, that might be your problem. Some of those CDs are very model specific and some are not.

Also, are you sure about the 80MHz speed? I only know them running at 60 and 66MHz.

Clock frequenzy hacks were quite common for the 61** using a higher clocked oscillator. He prolly got his hands upon an overclocked machine....

It was indeed overclocked with a little black box that rode on top of two chips. I removed it, and system 7.5.3 still doesn't boot - even though the machine's ID is now correctly 75. I even tried reinstalling 7.5.3...no go. WTF is up with this??!
