Ok, so i own a Dual 800 G4. My power goes out in my building and when my computer goes to turn back on, nothing powers up. The only thing that does happen is the small round power button lights up while you hold it down. No hardrives, no fan, nothing. So I open it up to see if it smells like the power supply is fried. It does smell out of the ordinary. The power supply model number is "API 1 PC 12". I'm not sure what my next move should be, and I have no idea how much this is going to cost me. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

From reading a few articles it seems that using a PC ATX power supply will not work in a powermac that has a pro speaker jack.

This includes your computer..

The reason why is there's an additional bit of power the ADC port uses. Whether or not that would be the only thing you'd loose on the computer if you swapped it out with a standard ATX power supply I have no idea.

However the pinout is still different.. and it seems to change with models, so it might not be an option at all. you might want to look for a quicksilver or digital audio G4 power supply on ebay. Best of luck.

The power supply on my dual 800 died last year. a repair from Tekserve in NYC, an authorized service center, cost less than 200 dollars.
