So, I'm thinking about maybe now getting a 1Ghz 17", but wanted to know: a) the Bluetooth internal module is only available on the Apple Store version, correct? And b) does the 1 512 MB DIMM mean it's in the user slot or the "unaccessable" one, thereby still giving you the option to add another 512MB?
thanks!

a) Yes.
b) In the AppleStore you can order 512 as 256+256 or as 512 in one stick installed in the non-accessible slot thus leaving the user-accessible slot free for later upgrades. The latter is a bit more expensive. If it says 1 stick, it means 512 in one piece, i.e. you still have a free slot.
HTH.

This helps immensely. Now, to wait for the prices to drop when the new version hits...

Yes, you can and they seem to work well. Even the AppleStore sells them.
If for some reason you can by no means buy at the AppleStore it is your only chance to get BT on an iMac or generally on any iBook.
Of course having it internally is more elegant, saves a USB port and in case of the iBook saves you from having to have a donggle stick out from the side of your computer making it more fragile (you'd hate yourself for accidentally ripping it off) and a bit more bulky.

From what I understand, you can get it installed later at any Apple store. Don't know if they'll charge an installation fee though.

No, you didn't. But I admit, my wording was crappy.
What I tried to say was that you can get cheap USB BT adapters, that they work under OS X and that even Apple sells them. I mentioned that that was the only way to get BT on an iBook albeit externally.
iBooks don't have internal BT. At least not w/o some hardware hacking...

Somebody on these boards metioned that as well. However, I have never seen the information confirmed. There have been no reports that somebody actually went to an AppleStore and had this done.
Since the procedure to take the iMac apart (case, thermal paste, heat pipe, etc.) is rather complicated I can't imagine that they would do that for you in 5 minutes at no extra charge. But, I'd enjoy hearing they actually do. Can anyone confirm?
