I currently have two WD 100 IDE drives in my G4 AGP Sawtooth, but would like to add two more from a different machine.

Is it possible to add another drive tape?

Is there enough power available from the power supply?

Would I HAVE to sacrifice the other drives (CD/DVD RAM and ZIP)?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide - I am clueless!

I have seen several reports on 4 HDs all you need is a Y cable for the power and a IDE PCI card. I have also read about people cramming a drive bot in the zip bay and on top of the optical drive for a total of 6 drives. However there must be a point were starting all those drives at the same time must tax the supply...

i have 5 drives in my sawtooth. two on on-board IDE, two on PCI RAID card (all four drives line the bottom), one FW internal on top of optical drive (using IDE/FW bridgeboard and internal FW port...yay sawtooth! ) didin't put the drive in the zip area, since i have a zip 250 installed.

works great, no problems here. you're gonna need some Y-cables, though.

That is great! Thanks for the information - I couldn't find it anywhere!

So to recap I will need:

PCI RAID card and 1 Y cable (for the PCI card?)

You just might want to get a larger drive, though, unless you want to hook up 4x/6x 160GB Drives, or if you're going to do a RAID setup (in which case you'd need a RAID card anyway).

There have been some reports (can't remember on which board, though) about heat issues. Haven't heard about power supply stress problems yet, though.

In my Sawtooth (237 W PSU), I have a DVD-ROM, CD-RW, three internal hard drives, and an external SCSI hard drive (external PSU).
