hey all, i have searched for this here but couldn't find anything, so please forgive me if this is a redundant post.
i have a dual gig right now and have already placed my order for a dual 2 G5. I do print design work, and have two sony trinitron 19" (both @ 1600x1200, i love these monitors) hooked up to my G4, one on the AGP video card and one on a Radeon Mac Edition (32MB) PCI card. There is no way I could ever do without these two monitors, so does anyone know if my PCI Radeon card will work in the G5s? I really hope it does. in a worst case scenario, have there been any PCI-X video cards annouced for the G5?
Anyone else have a good idea on how to run a dual display, dual VGA set-up on the new G5?
(please restrain yoursleves in suggesting i get DVI or ADC monitors instead, i need advice for the monitors i already have. thanks.
thanks in advance for the help,
t.o

I believe there are ADC to DVI and DVI to VGA addapters.
Of course there may also be ADC to VGA addapters. Either way you shouldn't need a PCI card to have two monitors. And the graphics card on the Power mac would do far better than a PCI card

That and the G5 has dual display capability built in –– an ADC and a DVI.

It's impossible to say if any old PCI card will work with the new G5s until they ship and someone tests them.
What does ATI say about it?

The Power Macintosh G5, like the Power Macintosh G4 Mirrored Drive Door, will support two displays out of the box.
The video card will have with a ADC connector and a DVI connector.
Apple supplies a DVI-to-VGA adapter lead with the computer.
If you are concerned about running a second VGA monitor, you can acquire a ADC-to-VGA adapter lead from Dr Bott for $35.
Again, if you are looking to run two DVI displays, Dr Bott sells a ADC-to-DVI adapter adapter for $37.
If you are looking to run two Apple ADC Displays, Apple will sell you a very expensive DVI-to-ADC adapter for $99.
I hope this information is useful to you.

PCI-X is backwards compatible, so it should work.
Mark the SHOULD though...

thanks for the suggestions fellows, this was one of those tiunnel-vision 'duh!' moments. i got the PCI radeon when i had my dual 450, and then just changed it into my new dual gig without even thinking about it, and was about to do the same on the G5, but it does indeed seem like the best choice would be to just get a ADC to VGA adapter and just sell my old radeon PCI with my dual gig.
thanks tons,

I certainly wouldn't count on all your PCI cards working. I know that my MOTU PCI-424 needs to be replaced with a new PCI-424/G5 model (fortunately MOTU is offering the upgrade for $70).
I'd suggest holding onto your G4 for a bit, and expecting to spend some money replacing PCI cards.
