so my g4 was on at home, thursday in manhattan until the blackout knocked it out. being careless, i did not unplug it in preparation for the return of power. fast forward a day later, i'm trying to boot up my machine (dual ghz mirror) and only the monitor is powering up (via the adc port). the computer doesn't make a noise. hitting the power button lights it up and fades out upon release. long story short, it's seamingly dead.

i have applecare but i have a feeling (and if anyone has read the terms and conditions) that power surge does not qualify me for care. anybody have any ideas of something i can try to resuscitate this guy before bringing him into the shop tomorrow? is it something as simple as a blown fuse or is the power supply burned...and what kind of data loss should i be expecting, if any?

anyways, thanks.

I would bet the power supply is blown.... when you bring it into the shop, just dont mention anything about a power surge.. just tell them " I dont know what happened it just didnt turn on anymore" If they ask you about a power surge say you unpluged it. Good luck.

First check the mobo battery. If that is okay, then try pressing the PMU reset button.

Yup, resetting the PMU button should fix the problem.

Remove the power cord, remove the PMU battery, and hit the reset button. Hold it down for 5 secs or so. Wait a few mins. Put the battery back in. Plug it all back in, and turn it on.

She'll be fine.

You won't need to worry about AppleCare. I'm very certain my instructions will fix the problem. I hope...

No special precautions. Touch something metal to discharge yourself before going in, unplug, hit the flat black button, remove battery, hit it again, wait a few secs, put battery back in, hit it again (for good measure), plug up and go.
