CambridgeSide Galleria does not have one, hopes to have one this week.

Chestnut Hill Mall does not have one, has no idea when they will get one.

Oh well, guess I'll just go home and make some money so I can afford one.

I also stopped in the CompUSA on Market Street in Brighton, MA and they thought they would have one on display Tuesday.

-- Jason

Update 8-20: CompUSA has a tracking number and said it should be set up for public viewing on Friday. He even thought they would be in stock next week.

Apple Store at Southpoint in Durham, don't have them yet. 'been told we should have them in 1 or 2 days, but have been told that for a while now'. I thought that was funny.

Parsons School of Design (New School is the official name) has a single 1.8 demo in the lobby of the graphic arts building at 13th street and 5th ave.

They have it hooked up to a 23" LCD and are showing some James Bond flick on it.

Its been there a few days.

Also are offering current 15" Powerbooks with dvd burners, an airport card and an extra battery for 2,100.00 to students. (I'm not a student or I'd probably get one).

Posting from a G5 1.8 ghz! ...
I'm at the Walt Whitman Apple store in NY. They have one demo unit. I just ran an xbench.. Got around 125 but the CPU test was really really low (around 75!!).. Anyway, the machine is not that big and is really gorgeous!

The cool thing with this store is that there is almost nobody. When I came in the G5 was all free

Seattle has them all over the place. The UW bookstore had one last week, and the Mac Store in the U District has a few. The Apple Store in Bellevue has some and the Frys that is opening has some too.

I just looked at one at the Somerset Mall store in Detroit. Very nice. Not an exciting design in visual terms, but a very good one considering the restraints. Clean and machine-like - I wouldn't have it any other way. In fact, I like the back better than the front - if you're gonna go industrial, might as well go all the way.

I couldn't hear it running in the store, but when I removed the plastic liner, the fans revved up. I expect that it will run very quietly under most conditions.

This thing is big and over-engineered (and I mean that in a good way). There's plenty of breathing room inside, but I'm not complaining, nor do I feel compelled to stuff it with more crap. That room is there for a reason: so the thing can run cool and quiet, which suits me fine. And to provide easy access to the components, which also suits me fine. Everything is plug and play, no tools required.

the Apple Store in Old Town Pasadena, CA has 2 units.

One was a 1.6GHz G5- I played a little on it, it did not feel any more responsive than the 1GHz Powerbook next to it.

The other was also either a 1.8GHz or the 2GHz, I couldn't tell cuz some fools were hogging it my whole lunch break. Damn Macgeeks!

I will update with the exact machines available there once I go back.

**updated** the second machine is a 1.8GHz.. soooo nice. Man those machines are QUIET and cool.

CompUSA store at I-25 and Colorado Blvd. in Denver, CO has a G5 1.6 GHz machine on display connected to a 23" Cinema display and an iSight. No internet access though, and the side panel is locked.

I'm not going to call an ambulance this time because then you won't learn anything.

I was at the Costa Mesa store today with a switcher. They've got a 1.6 and a 1.8 on display. I was busy helping my friend with her new iBook so I only got to toy around with each unit a little bit, no chance to run PSBench or get a hold of XBench unfortunately. Both systems oddly enough were equipped with 512MB of RAM. The 1.6 had four 128MB DIMMs while the 1.8 had two 256MB DIMMs. I asked when they might get a dual 2GHz in but the manager wasn't really sure. She thought they MIGHT have them in by the end of September.

OT: I wish I got a switch commission, I've got two PC switchers now and I'm working on a third!

Fashion Valley now has one on demo (1.6)

Also, if anyone is in San Diego right now, get to FashionValley - NOW. I think there is a super model convention in town or something because this place is crawling with rediculously hot women! FYI.

The Apple Store Short Hills NJ has both a 1.6 GHz and 1.8 GHz available for hands-on use. For all the talk about how many fans these puppies have they're totally quiet. The 1.6 GHz model had 11 programs open at once and didn't make a sound. Even with iTunes playing constantly in the background.
