Is anyone else perturbed by all this self-proclaimed 'official' crap?

Hey, at least my official ship date thread was officially the first of the bunch.

heh-heh. I thought that when I posted my "official" thread. And I got to admit I was inspired by EUG's thread.

Anyway, I'm not really bothered by it, because I think it serves a purpose to have the info all in one spot. Hopefully this prevents creating 5 different threads all about the same thing. I think that is more annoying than 5 "official" threads.

But, if you don't like all the official threads, I'm sorry I added to the mess (for your sake) and I can see how it would be irritating. But hopefully you will gain useful information from one of them.

Just my (long-winded) opinion.

This is my "Official Reply" to the Officially too many official-anados" thread.

My Official thread was indirectly making fun of the abundance of Official threads, but this kind of humor sometimes sails right over people's heads. Either that or it was dumb...

Officially noted.

It's now official, any thread title must have the official prefix lest anyone think it was the unofficial version.

And for the official record, I wasn't officially perturbed. ")

But come on, someone is going to have to take anarchist action if these self-proclaimed 'official' threads keep popping up. Hmmm... how about a bit of perl that replies to posts with the same content but prepends verbs with 'officially' and nouns with 'official'.

That'll fix their official little red wagon.

Actually, if it keeps down the number of redundant posts, I don't mind it, except if EVERYONE puts "Official" in front of their message, it will begin to lose its meaning.

Begin? Heheh... it never had meaning. All the "Official" threads are actually unofficial. Perhaps, if they were sticky, I'd call them official.

If someone is going to post on a topic, I don't think they base the decision of whether to start a new thread on whether another thread has 'official' in the name. Who knows, it may actually have the opposite effect. Empirical data anyone?

In the mean time, it just makes the board look ridiculous. Or perhaps that's just the perspective of a longtime forum lurker. In the many years dating back to the days of modem-pool based BBSes, I've seen the phenomenon crop up and die out many times over...

Of perhaps more interest is why I've spent more time in this thread than the ones announcing the G5 shipping status. Hmmm. My theory is that while waiting for actual user reports on G5s, I'm filling time with a litle cultural steerage. (or just wasting time)

It doesn't matter anyway, someone is going to come along with an official bug up their official a$$ and b/c they buddy got a new G5 when they ordered theirs during the keynote announcement, err, officially. I am all about the survival of the fittest with threads.
