The Firewire ports on my 700Mhz flat panel iMac suddenly don't work. I've been using an external bus-powered hard drive with no problems until now. While the drive now powers up when plugged into either port, it doesn't mount on the desktop, under OS X or OS 9. I've tried just about everything I can think of including a safe boot/fsck; open firmware boot/reset. System profiler doesn't recognize the drive on the Firewire bus.

The drive is not the problem since it mounts just fine on three other Macs I've tried it with.

Any ideas? Is there any kind of reset button for the Firewire ports? (I know that's a stretch.) I'm about ready to consider the repair shop. (It's out of warranty.) I've never had Firewire problems with any Mac before.

Never mind. I unplugged the computer for five minutes and everything is back to normal. Strange.
