I just took delivery today of a custom 17" w/ Bluetooth/512MB-1stick'er. I'm debating whether I should wait for tomorrow to see if there'll be an announcement. If so, opening the box (which wouldn't have been as good as refusing delivery) would be better, perhaps in the returns issue with the Apple Store (online). Shipping back would suck, too.

There are reportedly incremental upgrades, but...what to do?

thanks!

I personally wouldn't dwell on the matter too much. I got a 15" iMac last year and about a week after i purchased it, the 1ghz came out. I loved my iMac until I decided to do some graphic design work and the display became too small for my liking. No one knows for sure when the iMac's and Powerbook's will be updated. Of course they WILL be updated, and maybe even before the end of this year. Other than that only a few people inside apple actually know when. I hate all of the rumor's floating around, as it seems to give people the jitters about getting a new machine, not that having the latest and greatest isn't nice, but if the iMac is updated tomorrow, rest assured 6 months from then it will be outdated too. Just enjoy your new machine.

It's wednesday and no announcements. Did you open it yet?

Rumors are 6-8 weeks away before the new ones, so you either return it now and wait, or open it and commit yourself.

then you still have to wait for the darn thing to ship.

I'm sitting in front of my bro's 15"/800/superdrive right now. He got his within the second batch of them that shipped out ^_^

open it.. it won't bite.. it's a beautiful machine and uh the worst that can happen is it's price will go down maybe $200 or so.. which is alot.. but your shipping will cost $40.. that trip to the post office, and who knows what else, for a machine you'll have to wait 3 weeks for, that might be 10% faster, have about the same video capability, and no new ram capability.

Just keep the imac You can do tv-out too.. something my bro's can't :'(

When the poll went 4:1, I cracked it. I installed my Medal of Honor on there, and turned EVERYTHING up, and it performs without lag. Crazy. I tried the ATi in my iBook, and the GeForce MX4 32MB in a previous iMac, and it definitely doesn't compare--I didn't think another 32MB would make a difference and assumed the graphics chip would be the differentiating factor. I was wrong. I haven't tried the Omaha Beach landing yet, but I imagine it would be fine, too.

Even as a professional, I have no doubt this thing will be great for Flash and art development. Everything is snappy, from graphics, window opening, and hard drive access, etc.; I imagine Panther will scream on this machine. No regrets.

Remember, just a year ago, a 1GHz G4 with a 64MB graphics card was the most powerful computer Apple was shipping (although of course it was a dual).

Those 17" iMacs sure are spiffy. It's too bad I have G5-itis, or I might spring for one of the 17" models.

It would take up less space than my 19" CRT for the machine plus the screen.

I'm so gladly unimpressed by the product refresh (not that refreshes aren't a good thing).

whew! i thought i was going to have buyer's remorse over a significant (e.g., like the move from curvy to flat panel). cool.

oh, and it screams on omaha beach. with everything turned up. same with unreal tournament 2003. wow.
