Hi all.

Stupid question: am I correct in assuming that the minijack output on the back of my G4/533 is just a regular audio out jack? My pro speakers have died (I accidentally bent the plug on them) and I want to pick up some regular speakers to replace them.

here's info on your computer:

your apple pro speakers were amplified by an amplifier inside the computer. regular speakers will plug in to the headphone jack and will have to be externally powered.

If you listen to a lot of music (as your sig seems to tell), you may wanna pick up this accessory (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL....5.10.3.1.13.0). Your DA is capable of driving regular bookshelf speakers, using the same plug you used for your pro speakers. The output power is not mind blowing (2 x 20W I believe), but it more than enough. And the quality of regular bookshelf speakers is sooo much better.

An option to consider.

having a quicksilver and using pro speakers I can say this myself..

There's 2 jacks.. both are audio out.. the small one is powered and the big one is not.

All regular speakers work fine on the big one.
