the base model emac should really be coming with a DVD-R/CD-RW and at least 256 MB of ram in order to stay competitive. The rest of the market is already doing this - look at emachines, compaq, or HP. 128 w/ a CD-rom for 800? I wouldn't recommend that to anyone.

True, Apple's low end continues to be high in it prices when compared to other machines on the market. However if a computer is a computer is a computer, just get a windows machine. For a good Mac OS X system 800 dollars is a pretty good price. Yes, I would like to see a better optical drive and more base ram, 256MB sounds reasonable. I don't think we will be an eMac update for a bit, although with G5's shipping, I am sure that will stir things up a bit.

work retail selling computers for a little bit. people don't know anything, and it takes forever to get someone to trust you enough to believe that 128 megs of ram is going to be fine when everyone else is bundling 512. go to best buy - most there have 512 & 80 gigs HD space. the processor is one thing, that can be argued. People that don't know the advantage of the Mac think they are being cheated, since the mac will end up being more expensive on day 1.
