Just got a call from the King of Prussia, PA Apple Store. They have a 1.6 G5 that now has my name on it.
My advice to those waiting for one is to call a nearby Apple store and put your name on the waiting list.

Along with lots of pictures, and lots of pictures of it coming out of the box, and all the packaging. I also want to see how the HD slides into the HD bays (using those side screws?).

I am up and running with my 1.6 with 1 gigabyte of RAM. You can see how it performs on XBench 1.1 compared to a dual 1.42 G4 at http://ladd.dyndns.org/xbench/merge....mp;doc2=29635.
Total scores are nearly identical. I know XBench is thought to be flawed for the G5, but I'll set about doing some more real world speed tests after the kids are in bed.

I put some pictures here: http://homepage.mac.com/jclarkv/PhotoAlbum10.html
No picture can substitute for how sturdy this thing feels....
Right new Seti@home has had the CPU monitor pegged for 16 minutes and the noise level is about the same as the low fan on my TiBook 800 (and therefore quieter than the high fan on the TiBook).

Well, thats pretty impressive to have a Dual 1.42 GHz G4 be the same speed as a single 1.6 GHz G5.

Congrats!
Your G5 looks great. It looks solid and built like a tank, almost dangerous with all that sharp metal everywhere. Nice pix.
The tests were better than I expected, except for Altivec and a few other oddities that I am hoping is attributed to the OS. The 1.6 w/Panther would probably mercilously slaughter a DP 1.4 IMO.

But the real question is:
Ray?? Ray Romano? Everybody loves Raymond?
The voice, the 2 boys/1 girl, the neighborhood, and the, well, never mind the wife. Folks, we are in the presence of stardom.

Not really. It will only increase the speed if an app is 64bit. 10.3 is still a 32bit os

Everything seems to run faster in Panther. Don't know why. They just do.

Nothing. Your wife is lovely, but she does not appear to quite match Raymond's wife in appearance. Ever watch the sitcom?

Love the sitcom. Let's remember, though, that she is an actress.

1.Pull some footage into iMovie
2.Under the iDVD tab press Create iDVD project
3.in the iDVD preferences make sure background coding is enabled
4. In the drawer thing on the left open the status and time the amount of time it takes until the blue bar says that it's finished. It's best not to use the machine during this part so I would suggest using about a ten minute clip.
5. Post the results here.
Thank you

Okay. 10:01 minute clip which iDVD added 30 seconds to for a clip duration of 10:31 totalling .77 GB.
It took 8:50 to encode.
Could you explain the significance?

They sound good to me, but I am using an 800Mhz eMac. I generally encode one hour of video in 4-5 hours.

Ok I was intrigued since your voice was so similar to Ray Romano. But I don't think you are the actor because:
He lives in California, not Pennsylvania.
He has 4 kids, not 2.

Plus, I have a G5 and he doesn't (I'm pretty sure, anyway).
