I would like to see how it does as well. I'd like to explore maya on my dual 500 mhz G4. Does anyone have any experience with this setup? I only have a 16mb graphics card.

I installed the free learning edition on my Tibook 500Mhz (8MB VRAM). It runs but I haven't had time to find or design a robust model to render. Try out the learning edition, it's the same as the release but rendered scenes have watermarks and export features are disabled.

I have a 400 Mhz and a 16mb graphic card, I switched from Cinema4d to maya a few weeks ago, though I am still not able to figure out how to use certain tools, it runs better then Cinema4d (7) only the rendering takes much longer depending on the settings.

It would be nice to see some results on G5 specially for rendering time in maya , and nice would be if test with render times with Mental Ray.

I have a G4 Dual 1.25 1.5 Mb Ram verry happy with it but I ll tell you Rendering makes this machne look S L O W .

I am craving for G5 but don't whant to be disspointed and hope not to have to move to PC platform. G5 Duals would be a nice test

Well, just a note that Cinema4D is currently being optimized for the G5 and Panther, and I would expect the same for Maya. In the case of Cinema4D, the boost is to purported to be quite significant on the G5. Dunno about the G4 though.

I betcha we'll see optimized versions within a few weeks of the release of Panther.

Would you happen to be attending the Art Institute in Ft. Lauderdale? I figured, Maya talk, and you're from Ft. Lauderdale (Art Institute location). So I was curious. I'll be going to that same one hopefully in October, but probably January is more likely.

I'll be able to run some tests when my dual 2 FINALLY comes in. (slated for a 10/29 worst case shipping date)

There is a test scene over at highend3d.com that i will probably run...don't know of any other benchies out there. I guess I could also compare to my 15in 1GHZ PB. Anyway, check out the benches coming form the PC crowd at highend3d...i'm VERY skeptical of them...they don't seem to make sence when a dual 2.4 xeon gets beat by a 2400XP Athlon. Will defenetly be fun to test it out anyway.

I'm curious about this too... I have a slightly old 500 mhz G4, and now that I'm getting into more post work and more Maya, I'm guessing it will really start to feel slow.

I was thinking about a 1.6 or 1.8 G5... but most of the tests I've seen are for programs other than MAYA.

That's because photoshop is easier to pirate than maya is.

Only 1.5MB RAM? No wonder it's slow
