Hello again!
I hope the upgrade the memory in my new PowerMac from 512MB to at least 1 Gig. What memory do you recommend and is it hard to install? I've upgraded memory on PCs many times, but I've never done the procedure on a Mac.
Two more questions: does anyone know how well Virtual PC performs on a dual 1.42 Ghz Power Mac? How much memory would you recommend for VPC using Win XP?

Upgrading memory in the new macs is pretty easy.
Don't buy bargain basement memory, I suggest either RAMJET or KINGSTON. Both might cost a bit more, but you know what you are getting and they have a lifetime warranty.
The RAMJet people are great. I had a problem that I suspected was RAM (that I had bought from them) and they just shipped me another one with the suggestion that I swap it out and see if it works. If the problem persisted, I could just send the RAM back, otherwise keep the new one. Fabulous customer service.
On the New G5's, you have to install in pairs, and that is how they are sold.
On older macs, you can just buy a module and pop it in.
Sometimes, when you insert RAM, the system does not see it, and you have to press the CUDA button on the motherboard. This has only happened to me once. Every other time, the Mac has just seen it.
I don't know what model you have, but Apple has nice online documentation for every model that details the process of adding RAM, with pictures and everything.
Good Luck!

Also,
I would suggest Windows 2000 over XP under Virtual PC. It runs fast enough to do most things you might need to do (access certain web based things through Windows, etc) that you cannot do on a mac.
As for memory to allot...allot! (sorry) Give it as much as you can afford to give.

Avoid the 512MB sticks that appear to cost half of what a ram reseller says will work with your mac. Those are high density DIMMs and they won't work on a mac.
A 512MB stick of DDR is about $95 now, unless on sale. Buy whatever you need or can afford.

Hi,
It looks like you have a:
Power Mac G4 (FW 800) which uses the following RAM: PC2700 (For the Dual 1.25 GHz and Dual 1.42 GHz PowerMac)
The specs on the RAM you need are:
184pin, 2.5volt, Cas Latency 2.5, for 333Mhz, PC-2700 DDR
Or, go to:
http://www.ramjet.com/g4ddr.asp
This shows your memory, just remember you need the PC2700 with your model.
You can get more information on your mac by pasting the following link into your URL field:
http://manuals.info.apple.com/Apple_...L22813B_EN.pdf
Hope this helps...
Bob
