I have a Quicksilver Power Mac G4 I am doing a complete upgrade on (RAM, hard drive, processor, video card, CD-RW drive) and I took off the modem and sold it. Will the unit still boot with no modem on the logic board?

Thanks!

It should, since the modem could be removed at build time.

Although, maybe you should have checked before you sold it?

lol sometimes you ask the most incredible questions, cheesepuff.

The answer is yes. The modem is simply on either an internal USB or internal serial port and either way it'll work without it.

My Quicksilver doesn't have an internal modem and my typing on my computer that will then lead me to post this message should prove this fact.

Yeah, gethigh is so right. I saved myself $50 and removed the modem on my 867 quicksilver. It's been working for just over a year now.

The only thing that would keep your G4 from booting up without a modem is if you say, took off the entire motherboard. Or left a ham sandwich inside it. Or maybe spilled a "Never Ending Soda" all over it.

I haven't had a modem on my towers since cable came out. I don't plan on getting a modem when I get my G5 either. Why pay $50 when I use cable?
