I just installed a new hard drive on my dual USB iBook (640MB RAM, now 40 GB hard drive). After the installation, I booted up using a OS X boot CD that I had made. I checked Disk Utility and the new hard drive showed up fine. I partitioned them and then installed OS 9 on one. When I tried to install OS 10.1.4 on the other, the CD refuses to boot. It freezes on the smiley Mac face. After I restart, I get the OpenFirmware screen.

I've tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM thru OpenFirmware. According to Apple, there are no firmware updates that I need. And the CD drive works fine (tested with other CDs). And the CD works fine booting up in other machines. Other OS X install discs used in the iBook do the same thing.

Help!@?
