I was going to sell my iBook for one of the yet to be released Al 15" PB's, but now I'm intrigued by the new iMacs. I may want to keep my iBook and have portability and a nice desktop machine.

The problem is, I want to save a couple hundred dollars on the 17" by configuring it without a superdrive. Obviously because of Apple's oversimplified product lineup (I know, I know, it's cheaper for Apple to keep it simple) I can't order one from them or walk into CompUSA and buy one like that.

Are there any retailers that can provide this, or am I stuck with a superdrive I'll never use?
Black MacBook C2D 2.0 Ghz, stock, Powerbook 15" 1Ghz (Al), iPhone 8 GB

You're stuck; you can't get a 17" without a Superdrive.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?
