I have two hard drives in my Power Mac G4 and I read somewhere that by moving your virtual memory swap file to another partition and even another hard drive can help improve performance on your system.

Is this true?

Or does it even matter anymore?

Yes it is true. Is it worth it though? Well, probably not.

Do you mean that it could screw things up in the long run?

I mean I know that Panther will speed up a lot of things, but I also want to make sure my system stays very stable. And I just thought by relocating my swap file that it would keep the system running more smoothly.

RAM is cheap. If pageouts are an issue, you're better off adding more RAM than messing around with the swap files.

For full on 2XHD Speed I'd use OSX's software Raid.
