I just got my brand new Dual 1.25 G4 (its no G5 but its still damn fast) and there is a staticky sorta hum coming from the speaker. Its always there, regardless of what the volume is set to. When when I run process viewer, the sound changes for an instant right before it polls the running apps (it updates every 3 seconds, and every 3 seconds the sound changes). I zapped the pram but that did nothing. Its very weird, and I'd hate to send back my brand new Mac, and have no computer at all for days. But that might be what I have to do.

Does it sound like a 60hz hum?

Possibly leakage from the AC circuit you're plugged into?

Try another circuit to see if it goes away.

i think i've heard of problems like this being related to the modem (and the way it's wired into the sound system).. if you have a modem in there, try dialing something up to verify that the modem is functioning normally.

It could be dirty power...I had a problem for awhile with my speakers humming, but then I got a good Monster Surge protector with "Clean Power" and the hum went away.

No modem, and its the same power supply i've been using for years that ran my last G4 with out a hitch for years, not to mention my 7500 before that, and my performa 550 before that. And i don't recall but it might have even ran my Mac Plus before that. When I get some free time I'm going to bring it to an apple store, i just don't want them to mess up my raid
