The cheap one seems like a good deal for a 1 GB DIMM, but their own description of it makes me nervous. What is this CAS latency? And 4 layer vs 6 layer module board?? I always bought the cheapest ram in the past and its has always worked great, except for a few rare cases, when I simply sent it back and the replacement worked great. Am I worrying over nothing, should I just get the $124 DIMM? It's for a Dual 1.25 BTW, that is currently struggling with only 256 MB of ram!

I think Apple specifies their computers that use PC2700 have to use RAM with a CAS of 2.5.

Does anyone else wanna chime in? I'm very confused on the ram issue here. I don't understand how some ram can perform better than other. As I understand it, PC2700 RAM either read/writes at 333 MHz or it fails. I don't get where the middle ground is that lets expensive ram work better?

There are many other specifications besides the raw bus speed of a memory chip, such as CAS latency and command rate signal timing. CAS 3 is slow for DDR SDRAM, you should stick to CAS 2.5. If you try and run a CAS 3 DRAM chip at CAS 2 you can get errors and hard lockups of the system.

I'm not going to call an ambulance this time because then you won't learn anything.

I agree... CAS 3 is not good for your G4. Also according to the website..
Apple Power Mac G4 (1.25GHz DDR)
Chipset
Module Board 6 Layer Board Required
CAS Latency Cas 2.5-2.5-2
DRAM Brands Major brand Chips Only
DRAM Types Cas 2.5-2.5-2
So don't pay $124 for that 1GB RAM.

If you look at the chips OWC is selling for the G5, they are CAS 3 chips. A lot more money but still CAS 3 chips.
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?
