IF YOU BOUGHT A NEW G5:
After they annouced the new wireless mouse and keyboard, I called Apple to ask if I was going to be getting a them with my 2.0DP (that hasn’t shipped yet) and was politely but firmly told that I would not. I then asked to upgrade and offered to pay the difference. That was declined as impossible due to the fact that mouse and keyboard comes packed with the computer. I asked to speak to a manager and was put on hold for five minutes. When the lady came back she told me that they NEVER do this, HOWEVER they would add a wireless keyboard and mouse to my order for no charge, THIS ONE TIME ONLY. I was very surprised. I thanked them and hung up. They appeared on my order status about tenminutes later as separate items with a ship date of 10/07/2003 and no charge. SOOOOO.. if you have a G5 on the way, and you want one of the new KB/Mice, go complain and see what happens. BTW, I never raised my voice, but I did point out that I had ordered the top of the line machine and didn’t understand why I wasn’t able to upgrade to the top of the line accessories? Logic usually doesn't apply tot he Apple Store, but obviously, it didn't hurt to ask.

That's funny!

Ialso have a powerbook that hooked up to my stereo and bigscreen that I use as ajukebox during parties. I'd love to hide the laptoip behind the computer and be able to switch through songs without always going over there, I don't really need the Wireless,as the G5 won't be going anywhere, but I was mad that I thought they wouldn't give it to me when I asked, but they did. I was VERY surprised.

I just thought other people might want to try to.

I tried. It didn't work for me. And my 6/23 order placed at 12:22pm still hasn't begun the build process. The supervisor I spoke to let me know that they may not make the current 9/22 date, but it will ship soon after. It better not arrive in October.

Like dealing with any customer service center, the person who answers the phone has NO POWER. If you didn't ask for the manager, I would try that.

I know they track calls, and I should mention that I called to complain earlier this month when they moved my original ship date. Someone at Apple told me it was because of the hard drives (I upgraded to 250). Then, my friend got a 1.8 with an 250MB hard drive the next day (and then I knew obviously THAT wasn't the problem) I called back and accused them of lying to me. A supervisor apologized for the mix up, and said the people answering phones shouldn't be giving any reasons, just that they were delayed, but didn't offer me anything. I guess I may be the proverbial squeky wheel.

This time they did. Call and ask them why they are giving the free wireless keyboards to some and not others. I could send you a screen capture of my current order status and you could shove that in their face. They may make some other excuse, but clearly it's not fair I'm getting them and you are not...

P.S. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE APPLE. I have a two 22inch cinema displays, a G3 ibook, a G4 450DP, and a G5 2.0DP on the way, not to mention the numerous Macs I've passed down to non-proffesional family members along the way...but I feel like thay are kind of jerking some of their best customers around, AND THAT SUCKS.

Also, did you order the bluetooth module? That may make a difference too...

Since I didn't order blue tooth in my dual G5 with 2GIGs of RAM, I had to call up, order the USB bluetooth and buy the wireless keyboard and mouse. To get the bluetooth internal (for me at this point) was too late and if I chose to do that I'd be at the end of the cue for shipping date... You got a good deal getting it all for free...

I talked to a supervisor and I do have the bluetooth module with my original order. It was worth a shot- but I'm not looking for something for nothing...I thought I'd give it a try- maybe it would have dulled the pain of my endlessly expanding 2Ghz shipping delay.

I rather have the corded keyboard with the extra USB port.

Also, I don't know why they would do this. I mean they are still shipping and selling the corded models and the G5's are shipping with them. Who cares if they came out with an fancier one that they sell separately, they don't owe anyone.

I guess the nice thing is that they aren't taking away my corded mouse and keyboard, that's already in the box, they just added the wireless ones onto my order and didn't charge me. The wireless peripherals don't ship til 10/07 according to my updated order status, so it's not like they are gonna ship it sans KB/Mouse.

By the way, I didn't demand the wireless version, I just called to ask if it was gonna ship with my current order and they said no, I asked if I could upgrade (read: pay the difference), and again they said no, then I asked for a supervisor and they came back with the free offer before I even spoke with the supervisor. I was perfectly content paying the difference. I'm not looking for a free lunch, but as long as they were handing them out, I accepted. I thought I'd share my experience with you all.

I have no interest in the KB or the mouse. I need a scroll and 2nd button and I want them both in black or grey. So it looks like I'll stick with a QS KB and my MX 300 mouse.

I checked my email when I got back from out of town and apparently the KB/Mouse already shipped on Friday and will be here tomorrow even though the invoice said Oct 7. Wish I could say the same for the G5...

no comment on the quote, but you do realize that you can make a signature that always comes out on the bottom instead of typing it every time, right?
