I´m wonder what future upgrades/speeds we can expect to see from thirdparty vendors like Sonnet, Powerlogix etc.

They currently have CPU upgrades up to 1.4 Ghz. What can we expect next?

- How much/fast will motorola further develope the G4 CPU ?

- Will current owners of G4 Quicksilver Powermacs have a possibility to upgrade to G5 CPU:s ?

I imagine that there will still be some good G4 upgrades (1.5 or 1.6 next); I assume that motorola has other uses for the G4. And they are still in powerbooks and imacs. However, I doubt that there will be any good G5 upgrades; it is just too different. Doesn't the G5 require a buss speed of 1/2 its clock speed? So that means that I could put a 266MHz G5 in my DP800 ? No Thank's! On the other hand, someone may come up with a north-west bridge or some such thing which adapts the G5 buss to the quicksilver or mirrored drive door buss. However, it seems to me that this would provide a rather crippled G5, even if you put in a huge cash. Maybe they could put in a PC 3200 RAM slot on the new processor card to take care of this problem... Or am I being sarcastic? Oh well, we can always hope for better upgrades, but I think that a faster G4 is the most practical, even though a G5 upgrade would be cool.

it does not look to good, my guess is that 2 Ghz at the most, the problem is also that the bus is slow on the G4 that will limit its usefullness

Very unlikely, even if they cound it would not be that useful
There was a 100 MHz 601 upgrade for the IIci, but that did not make it a 7500/100 that also used a 100 MHz 601. A slow 25 MHz bus a slow SCSI bus only nubus cards and so on made it way inferior.

There has been rumors for a long time about a G4 with DDR support and that would extent its usefullness in iMac and eMac but do nothing for the CPU upgrades.

Now we have dirt cheap G3 upgrades for the PCI powermac generation, but they start to get old, they lack real support in OS X, they do not have AGP and they have no native USB, so the reasons to upgrade fades rapidly. A year from now I think the G4 will be in a similar setting, they might be supported by the latest version of X but they will lagg so far behind in performance that the reasons to upgrade will be mostly gone.

I plan to make a cheap upgrade of my G4 that will last me a year or so but past that even the most expensive dual G4 upgrade will be killed by the cheapest G5 around so what is the point...

The G4 to G5 transition will be much faster than the G3 to G4

I have a 1.467 GHz G4 upgrade processor in my Mac and it registers as 1.5 GHz. You can also overclock it to 1.6 GHz with a little better cooling.
