According to the german newspaper »FAZ am Sonntag« Steve Jobs said in an interview that powermac G5s will reach 3 GHz in "the middle of 2004". That´s much earlier than the two weeks ago "end of the summer of 2004"...

That would be June, about a year after the G5 was announced, which is what Steve said at WWDC.
Dual 1.8 GHz G5

Actually I think in Paris he said 3.2 GHz (I watched the video just for that).

Ok, here's the question: I'll be getting a new machine around December/January... or at least I was planning to. Should I just get a DP2000 then, or should I wait for some speedbump, like a DP2500 (assuming it's not announced yet).

In other words, do you think there will be an update between the current 2.0 and mid-'04 3.0?
Be happy.

HOLY BALLS. At this rate, I might as well cancel the edu. inst. order for my Dual G5 (it's been what, 3 months since the keynote?) and order the next revision!! or even wait until summer 2004!!

three months! ridiculous.

on the flip side, i've been waiting years for apple to drop moto... =)

Isn't logic swell? It gives answers without really answering anything!

you shouldn't put too much stock in rumors especially if you need the machine. lets say the 3.2 is delayed until july and it ships in august. thats like a year away.

if you were waiting years to upgrade, you can't put a pricetag on the productivity for the months you wait.

Or let's just say that Apple by care of Mr. Jobs decide to maintain their do-the-talk-but-not-the-walk regime for next year's release, too.

That is, announce 3+GHz in June/July, start shipping in, oh, October? It's just like they're doing now, you know, with the Dual G5?

Which still says "4-6 weeks" for delivery (in Norway).

It's quite incredible that something can be announced that early and ship that late.

Order now, in other words, if you need a new computer.

With all these delays w/ the duallies, Apple has about as much credibility as my dog's behind ...

You are forgetting Apple updates every 6 months, it's been 3 already.

True, but Apple can't even build the damn machines they've already announced. You think they'll actually be able to do a second revision any time soon??

They could make the machine exactly the same except the CPUs.

Rev. B need not be a huge upgrade.

It's good to be with IBM now.

I mentioned this way back when, looks like Stevey confirmed it. Yay!

I wonder if the 3.2GHz will be on the .09 micron process? I'm guess yes.
