Have a few questions about the entry level 1.6 GHz G5. Others may have asked the same questions before, but since you can't search for "G5" i thought I'd just ask.

First, I would just like to hear some impressions of the entry level G5. How does it compare to the last top level dual G4 MDD? They always refer to the Dual 2GHz G5, when they talk about the radically re-designed architecture of the G5. Well, are the entry level G5's that great, or won't they be even be comparable to later revs?

Are the G5 1.6 GHz quieter than the dual 2GHz? If so, how much quiter?

Is the 1.6 GHz good bang for the buck, even when comparing to PCs?

thanks!

I love my 1.6 GHz G5. It's VERY quiet. I can only hear a faint hum during use, and with music playing at even the faintest level, i can no longer hear the hum.

Things seem very zippy, but this is my first mac, so it may be that im just not used to the speed of os x.

I would say, unless you see yourself needing to upgrade to 8 GB of RAM ir using PCI-X, get the 1.6 GHz model. If you have some extra cash, maybe get the 1.8 GHz model, but i think that you will be quite happy with the 1.6
