Well, Rev. 1 machines are out.... Anyone having any problems? Is the Rev. A curse rearing it's head with the new G5's? It seems like Apple may have dodged the bullet this time.....

Does too few USB ports count? My Dell has 4, my G5 has 3. When I plug in my wireless mouse, printer, and my digital camera's card reader, there are none left for anything else.

Doubt Apple will fix that though.

Well, he already spent a few grand on the machine, why spend more on a hub? At least, I think this is his point, which I agree with.

Anyway, doesn't the keyboard have two other ports for a total of five?

i beleive that this thread is only for the problems like breakdowns and broken internals after a few days running no the lack of ports on the machine

Mine has yet to blow me across my house through walls landing me up against a tree. I think mine is a dud as well. Should've waited for Rev B.

I had zero problems with my Rev. A G4 and so far I've had zero problems with my Rev. A G5.

I've had my G5/1.8 for a week and it's been flawless. I nearly went with a closeout G4 DP but I'm most pleased I didn't. $3500 CDN and no buyer's remorse yet!

My Dual is tight, fast, clean, quite, awesomely fast. I've tested all the ports, including digital/optical. Not a single problem. The biggest problem I'm having is getting work done! With the panel off, and my silver corsair xms memory, aluminum heatsink on my 9800, and the rest, It's jaw dropping.

My dual G5 has been up and running for almost a week and except for some restarts here and there it has been running 24/7 no problems whatsoever. I ran the hardware test DVD for fun to see what was what and it reported a hardware error code that said "ERROR CODE- 2FAN/4/8: FAN FOR BACKSIDE".

After I saw this I was all ready to call tech support but I went over to Apple's forums and it turns out it's a known issue with the test software that reports erroneously a faulty fan. I looked at the fan and it runs fine. There will be a new version of the test disc that fixes this.

Bravo! Apple is marketing a machine that -could- kill you, yet there have been no reported deaths, I think that counts as a rev. A flaw, or marketing lies.
I remember when the 512ke shipped (or was it the IIfx?), people were dropping like flies....

1.6 with no problems. Actually, it's more solid than the 867 15 inch powerbook it replaced. I tended to get some application crashes about one a day with that machine. Nothing has crashed on my new box. Rock solid so far...

Of course I could verify that, once it ships.

And as far as USB ports go, two in the back, 1 in the front, two on the keyboard.

What ever happened to the 4th port on the keyboard? They do include a 2 port hub with the powermac you know...

i not heard of any problems in the studios i freelance, but they are still fairly rare in the UK.

on the USB point, if you buy a Studio LCD screen you get another 2 on the back of that.

I understand this is more to do with Apple's design, but in general I get annoyed seeing posts like this. As if the high cost of a product means the buyer should be entitled to a lot of extra stuff for free?

The thinking seems to go: I gave Apple $3000 of my hard-earned cash and I damn well SHOULD be entitled to:

- a multi-button pro mouse...
- a free box of DVD-Rs...
- a DVI to Video Adapter cable...
- a free upgrade to Panther...
- a wife who looks like Jennifer Garner.

Wake up and smell the expensive coffee! You get what's on the product description. Not happy with what you get for the money? Don't buy the friggin' thing.

The more stuff that's included, the more it has to be subsidised by higher prices for everyone else who may not want the included stuff (though personally I wouldn't say no to Jennifer).

I hadn't even thought of that one. I was happy with my dual G5 -now I'm just ticked off. Does Dell offer this? If they do, I hate to say dual G5 or not I'm gonna be a switcher

Btw, had machine 72 hours, no problems. It has not been turned off, all ports appear to work, performance is great, etc...

I have not tested the built in Bluetooth because I don't have anything BT...
