Well, my dual G5 arrived a couple of days ago, needless to say, it is AWESOME. Right now it is set up on my desk, but I would like to move it to the floor. But then my girlfriend and I were thinking, "gosh, if it is on the floor, maybe those 7 (or 9?) fans are going to vacuum the floors for us and gunk up the innards".
So, it sits on my desk while I ponder how my profusely shedding dog may take a toll on my machine.
Any thoughts on dust, dog hair, etc that a G5 may likely suck in while on the floor?

All my computers sit on the floor on some sort of raised box or platform..around 2-3 inches off the floor to ensure adequate intake.
Vacuum your surroundings occasionally, and every now and then, check the intakes/exhaust for lint/hair/dead squirrels and clean as needed.

Years ago when I was in grad school we had an SGI workstation that sat on the floor in the lab. One of my labmates frequently brought his dog to the lab, and he (the dog) would curl up next to the SGI. One day the SGI went on the fritz, so we called university tech support. The guy who opened the thing up found that the cooling fans had seized because they were gunked up with dog hair. He was pulling mounds of dog hair out of the inside of this thing. He was amazed that it hadn't caught fire, because this had been known to happen when the fans stopped working on this particular machine.
So, your concerns are not unwarranted.

I wouldn't loose any sleep whatsoever over dust. If things really get covered with dust after three years, buy a 4 dollar can of compressed air and blast the insides for 10 seconds.
It's really only an aesthetics issue. I'd bet that more computers have been damaged by an accidental kick or flooding than by mere dust.

That thing looks like a nightmare waiting to happen. Unless I'm missing something, there are NO side supports to prevent your G5 from toppling off that flimsy little platform. There are also NO handles on the back or front to grab for pulling the machine one way or ther other.
And $80? Are you frickin' kidding me?
Dude, make a fun little project out of this. A little trip to Home Depot, a little imagination, and you'll have something actually useful.
