Can some people confirm the G5's poor airport reception? I have an iBook I keep downstairs and use my G4 as the gateway to the Internet. I was planning on purchasing a new 1.8 G5 in the near future, but I refuse to shell out an additional $250 for the basestation. Is it really true that the range maxes out at 15-20 feet?? Is Apple really that stupid??

You know you can also spend $40 bucks in a non-Apple router. Gives you an extra layer of protection with the router firewall, and does not require your G4/5 to be on when you wanna use the Ibook.

Where did you hear that? They were probably talking about Bluetooth range. Airport is more like 150 feet.

What he said. Apple charges $100 for an airport card and you have to leave the computer on all the time. Get a Netgear MR 814 for about $70. You then have a much better rage airport and firewall.

oh good grief. You know you can get an external antenna for cheap and plug it in in the back (like the little dongle that comes with the g5).
