I need to set up a G4 to watch Tv, I have found several tuners that look decent, but was wondering what kind of video cards would be good for this task. Also can someone tell me what the video format for macs is, I know PCs are VGA, are macs also or something else. As you might guess im a mac novice.

Get an analog<->firewire converter (Sony iLink converter, Dazzle Hollywood bridge, or Canopis Procoder (sorry 'bout the spelling)). Hook in your S-video or composite vid and stereo RCA jacks, and then use something like BTV Pro to watch/capture the raw DV flowing into your mac. Have fun!

also do a search in the peripherals board for Televio...that might be a card to look into, since it's cheaper than any FW converter.

So I ordered a Televio card (direct from the company) and they charged my credit card for it. I never got anything and the company would not give me any further information. They told me they shipped a "second" card, but it never arrived. This company took my payment in July and I still haven't gotten a product from them. They now refuse to return my e-mails. Looks like I got taken for a ride.
Televio - huge ripoff
Buyers beware

Edit: About a month after I posted about my story in various places on the Internet, I was contacted again. They decided to refund my money, asking me to remove the bad reviews.

I bought a Televio from Dr Bott and received it OK. However, it has a serious video interference problem (white wavy lines) that seems to be related to cpu speed. The faster your cpu, the worse those wavy white lines are. At 1st, Melenstein was very helpful and offered plenty of suggestions for me to try. Nothing worked. And they quit responding to emails about 3 weeks ago. Not a very good sign.

However, it appears Miglia has started to sell the exact same card but without the IR remote control transitter and receiver. It's possible that ownership may have changed hands for this product. You may want to consider contactiong Miglia to find out the current status. Good luck........joe

I was just looking at some of Dazzle's newer products on their web site (http://www.dazzle.com) and there doesn't seem to be any official Mac support.

from what I can tell the meglia card has no remote port but for $139 (shipped) that's an EXTREMLY good price.

When the stores here in the states start selling it for 109 (it's base price) then I'll be very tempted. The remote isn't worth $70, or even $30 to me.

Do not buy a USB one - the quality is very poor. Buy a PCI card one (televion) or a firewire one (Formac)
