I don't know what the subject title means but I do understand those numbers. Sounds great to me!
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

The Orphange is a special effect outfit that appeared in an advertisment showing how they ditched the mac last year to go to PC since After Effects was "so much faster"

The ad made it look like it was a legit magazine story.

what they failed to mention was the dorks at adobe did not take adavantage of the 2nd pro in the dual g4 machines.

It was a sleazy ad produced in a sleazy way.

osxisfun, you're being a bit disingenuous. While the G5 2x2.0 does outpace the field in the first test, it falls behind in the second render and total rendering by 6+ minutes to the Xeon 3.06 x 2.

My G4 DP/800 does the first test in 278 seconds (using AE 5.5 which is slower).
I am stupidest when I try to be funny.

Just to give a little more detail, this ad was disguised as a legit story about how the film/video production company, the orphanage (http://www.theorphanage.com) switched from macs to PCs, because Adobe After Effects was so much faster on the PC. The ad was paid for by Adobe, Compaq and Intel - their products were mentioned in this ad, but there was no indication of who the advertisers were. Once the truth came out, DV Magazine got tons of complaints about this purposely misleading ad. Stu (the subject of the ad) has argued that he didn't get any free gear in exchange for his testimonial - I think it's clear that everyone has a price.

an example of the ad

The "professional" journalist who wrote this ad goes on to say that people wouldn't have been upset if the ad was pro mac astroturfing.

oh give me a break, osxisfun. PCs are far superior and will always be faster for every reason.

Not to mention they're cheaper and have more games and are more compatible

If macs are faster then the benchmarks are broken, maybe they broke between the time the macs lead and the PCs lead?

A couple of G5 duals with Panther are now up, and one has claimed the top spot in both tests.

There is a huge discrepancy between the two Panther machines on the second test, though, which is a bit puzzling.

New benchamarks panther make a bit of a diffrence the difference. wonder what rev they were using.

Hi link.

Dual XEONS are cheaper then dual g5? (compriably equipped)?

As for G5 for games. I don't play games. I am too busy creating neat stuff to sit on a couch and play nintendo.

thanks
