I thought this might happen. Having a Dual 1.25 at work I noticed how it warms the room up after running for a few hours.

I got a Dual G5 today to replace my G4 Cube. After having it run for 5 hours the 20 x 25 foot room the G5 is in the room is warm and that new computer smell is everywhere. I don't mind the smell but it is damn cold outside and warm and stinky in here. I might not mind in the middle of winter but the thought of next summer scares me!

I haven't noticed any increase of temperature due to my dual G5. Maybe I'm not pushing it enough, or maybe I have better circulation in my room.

If you put your hand behind the back, do you feel warm air? Mine is a little warm, but not bad.

Actually, I had that same deal with my Dual 800. It really toasted my room up nicely. I didn't really mind, tho with the Dual 2 that's arriving today, I may see a bigger temperature boost.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I leave my puter on 24/7.

I haven't found that at all. If anything, the room my G5 is in has been a little chilly the past few days and I've been leaning towards the Mac hoping it would warm up my hands. It's cool to the touch all around, maybe slightly warm on the sides. Certainly not enough to make a difference in the room.

To be honest the Dual G4 1.25 ALWAYS has very warm air coming out the back. So far the air out of the G5 Dual is cool, but I haven't put it through its paces yet.

My dual 800 has rather warm air coming out of the back all the time. My room is much warmer than the rest of the house. Especially during the winter. I just try to think of it as a really expensive space heater. Also, I leave it running Seti or Folding@home as a screen saver when I am not using it. So it's running full tilt nearly 24/7.

everyone knows the dual 800 was:

1. one of the most expensive g4s made in the past 3 years.
2. one of the noisiest g4s made in the past 3 years.
3. one of the hottest running g4s made in the past 3 years.

Need I say more?

When you put one through it's paces it makes a MDD g4 look quiet They really messed up pushing dual 7450's to their limits lol

Then again they didn't sell a lot.. actually very few compared to other models (but still a lot more then the 733 graphite ever sold).

I have two macs, and three CRT monitors.

I can feel the room cool off after a few minutes, when I turn off the monitors.

Try turning off your monitor(s) to see if that makes a difference.

Serves you right for using a CRT

Anywho, to be fair, so far the G5 is much much quieter then the Quicksilver 733 and cooler. Cooler then the Dual 1.25 G4 also.

A room that is being used is always going to get warmer as well: humans radiate heat.

(That's why The Matrix wanted them.)
