When I insert media in both my internal CD-RW and my external FW one it does not appear on the desktop. That includes blank CDs, MacOS ones etc. Both drives are seen by System Profiler.
Have upgraded from 1.5 to 2.6, repaired permissions, fsck'd, run DiskWarrior all to no avail. Sounds like a hardware problem except for SysProfiler's awareness of the drives, but what does the ata/ide bus of the internal drive have in common with the FW one that would come after the point where SystemProfiler recognizes them !?
Thanks for your input.

System Preferences -> CDs & DVDs

Make sure they're set to "Open Finder" or "Ask what to do".

tooki, thanks for your reply. I checked the cd/dvd pref, it was set to "ask", just to be sure I toggled to another option and back, but it still does not work.

I always get this kind of problem on my FW 800 combo drive (Philips CD5301).. I called Apple and demanded for an exchange.. but they refused it..

The drive have a hard time to recognize some audio CD and CDRs. The most weird thing was.. the first time worked.. but not the second time.
