hi folks,

there are two obvious issues with my dual g5 and was wondering if anyone else has these problems.

issue 1: the system profiler will not open up.

issue 2: i'm using toast 6 to burn dvd's and my media is not recognized either by the program or the sony 4x superdrive.

when it tries to write to the dvd-r, i get the spinninging beach ball and loks up the program.
i can force quit but i have to manually pull the door of the superdrive to get out the blank dvd. nothng i tried got the media out once forced quit. neither via program, mouse or keyboard.

this particular media works fine with roxio toast 5.2 and the pioneer dvr-105. on a dual 1.25 machine.

just a heads up to see if anyone else experienced this or if anyone has any solution suggestions i'm all ears.

btw: the media i have been using is generic and the sony does fine with the generic 2x dvd-r.

thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have the dual G5, it has the Pioneer drive in it, I don't have either one of those problems.

You attach any firewire devices or PCI cards? Ram even?

"Hello, what have we here?

Issue 2) I'd try better media. Generic 4x DVD-R may be pushing it. Some drive mechanisms are more sensitive than others.

Issue 1) Weird. Could the app have been corrupted some how? Try using Pacifist to reinstall it off the system DVD.

issue 1: i unplugged my 4 bay firewire box and the system profiler opened.

i have 4 hardrives in the enclosure and they are show up fine and work perfectly but the system profiler doesn't like it.

issue solved.

issue 2: still has problems. the same media can be burned at 4x using roxio toast on a pioneer 105 drive.

will try to use different media on the sony and will report back.

thanks for the suggestions everyone.
