Okay, I got the 1.6G5 with just the combo drive because I've already got an A05 dvd burner.... but I'm having trouble installing it... I've switched the feet (the little black screws that snap into place) but the tray only comes a few centimetres out before it hits the top lip of the g5's slot...

I read the apple docs and they say there are different feet for different drives... I just switched the feet from the combo drive...and i don't think I got any others...

has anyone else switched the combo with a superdrive successfully ?

also how do you know if your computer has bluetooth ? i didn't order it but I got some kind of plug thing and an option in my system preferences...

well about the blue tooth, i think the blue tooth card is a little (square inch) card on top of the mother board right behind the PCI card fan, also check the label on below the clear plastic cover, it has the serial numbers and such, and there is a bluetooth id (on mine), i thought you only got the bluetooth antanna if it came with bluetooth, so maybe you did.

the feet on the drive... i don't know were you can get different ones, there have been alot of people talking about this

Sorry, I can't find anything, Macnn won't let me search for the term "g5" as it is too small. Do you remember what the threads were called ?

I have prepared a Pioneer DVR-A05U drive I have for installation into a G5 by removing the front off of the drive tray as shown in this article from hardmac.com .

The explanation they give is not very clear, but the thing unsnaps when you find the right combination of pressure points to release it.

I have not received my G5 shipment (that's a whole nother story) to try it in yet.
it was the world's fastest computer when I ordered it!

Hi,

I have successfully replaced the combo drive in my new 1.8 G5 with a Sony DRU500A DVD-R/RW and it's working fine. Go for it!
