Got my new 1.8 this morning, and an Airport Extreme card that I had to install. Installation of the card is simple, but here's my question...
In the small black plastic clip near tyhe card is the end of the antenna cord with the connector that plugs in to the card. However, what appears to be the other end of the antenna wire and a different metal connector is also loacted in the plastic clip. Does this second "connector" attach to anything? Does it simply remain where it is? At first, I thought it might be the end of the wire that needs to attach to the rear of the computer where the small antenna plugs in.
Any help is appreciated.

why do people put wireless networking in their desktops? It strikes me as being silly and expensive.

My MDD is airport extreme equipped.. which means one less CAT5 cable laying around. Isn't it nice to see only two cables (ADC and power) out on the back of the desktops?
Some people may have already got a PowerBook or iBook and an ABS at home.. why not adding a desktop on the wireless network?
This is not silly or something..

It's not silly.. I just don't want to run a 50 foot cable through the hallway of my house to be able to use my second desktop. Different people have different needs.

Did you get the bluetooth option in your G5? If not I belive that other cable is for the BT adaptor.

My G5 with AE is sitting about 2 feet from the base station. After a lightning strike traveled down the phone wires this summer, toasting the DSL modem, the router, and my old G4, it seemed like a good way to isolate the G5 from the phone line. The power is coming through a Belkin UPS.

If you have multiple computers (even a few laptops) throughout the house, it makes perfect sense to have a wireless network. You don't have to run unisghtly ethernet cables everywhere.
However, I'd rather take the time and investment to run ethernet through the house and put jacks in. No replacement for speed when it comes to gigabit ethernet, imho.

As mentioned, it is extremely handy to use your mac as a wireless base station. This is built into the Sharing Preference Pane under the Internet Tab. Heck, I've even used this feature to share a dial-up connection between two airport equippd macs.
When I get a G5 for my office, it will definitely have an airport card and it is NOT a waste of money!
