Hello,
I just installed Panther on my iMac 233 (160mb ram, stock 4GB HDD, 6mb VRAM) and DAMN! it's a lot faster then 10.2.3!
Really I've been toying around for an hour and must say that OS X is finally usable on this iMac.
Also the first time that I get in thouch with Panther and I can't wait to go install it on my iMac G4. Panther is sweet!
Expose even runs smooth! And may I add that expose is very cool!
Apps like Safari, IE, iTunes and Word start up faster. iTunes used to do around 5 bounces and now only 3.
Also the System Prefs is up after only 2 bounces.
Browsing through the new brush metal looking Finder seems to go faster too.
There are also some drawbacks, Virtual Memory has been increased from about 1GB to 1.5GB, so thats a huge increase.
But more ram would help on that mather, who knows I even might add it.
I would recommend Panther to every one who is still using a G3 Mac, caus the speed increase is just huge!

That sounds good, if only you can add more RAM and replace the factory HD... if you need it of course...
But, Panther yet ?

max is 512mb ram, HD goes up to 120gb or so, first partition at 8gb.
Make it really take advantage of all that Mac can do- also upgrade the VRAM to 6mb

very good.. I used to have the iMac Rev. A with 256MB RAM.
Good to see Apple supports old Macs. (Finally)

Weeelll, Panther RUNS on a 266 G3 iMac (288ram), but expose is jerky when you have more than 3 windows open, no cool animation for fast user switching...but the Finder is great. Apps do generally open faster, and it was worth the upgrade. Of course i'm personally in heaven with my iMac G4. Oh well!

I was wondering if my iMac would be fast enough... But I guess it is then.
Got to save some money fast....

Yep. RevA 288MB RAM. Much faster. Not as fast as 9.1 but faster than 10.2.8

NOTE: My USB CD-RW (a sony Spressa) stopped working when I made the jump from 9 to 10.3.
10.3 was my first OSX install on the iMac. I tried it on my 10.2.8 box before I upgraded, and it didn't work there either. When I booted into 9 it did work though. dunno...
