Just got the new 1 ghz 15" iMac and noticed that it sports the old iMac logo on the display. Why have Apple reverted back from the new typeface of the former model? Anyone else noticed the same thing? Or has Apple found some old displays and used them?

It just means they accidentally gave you the older bezel. If it bugs you that much call apple or exchange the machine
