Hey all-
There is a great deal right now on a 1.2GHz G4 upgrade which I have been eyeing here .
BUT, what are people's results with Panther and processor upgrades?

I have a gigadesigns card, the 800Mhz that dosen't require any enabler software - and it has been 100% perfect through several panther betas.

Some of the upgrades have been mentioned in the forums as working great, but...
Sure is up to POWERLOGIX to update their site and say "YES". (they mention only "all versions of 10.2". You might want to prod them?

I just installed a 1.25 Ghz GigaDesigns G4 in a 400 Mhz sawtooth. The thing came set at 1.4 Ghz and I did not know it. It is amazing. Rock solid. With a new HD, the new chip and panther, this machine is a moster. I can not believe how fast the machine felt. I have a 1.6 Ghz G5 at work (running 10.2.7) and it does not even come close.

Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

HOw much did it set you back? I'm looking to get a processor upgrade I was thinking of the Sonnet 800MHz Upgrade. Anyone have any comments on this upgrade?

I am thinking of exactly this same upgrade (I have a 400 MZ G4, purchased three years ago currently.) It's been a fine machine, but obviously is on the slower end. But spending less than $300 for an upgrade card is definitely preferable to spending $2,500 for a new machine!

The processor was $439 and the hard drive was another $110. I also added another 512 ram for the guy and the total was $620. The machine itself blew me away. Fast does not even describe it. Panther is just amazing on this machine. Just amazing. The giga design processor was really eazy to instal and is rock solid. I would recommend this to everyone with a G4 tower (400-800 Mhz).

May I assume you do not recommend it for 350 Sawtooths because such a shocking speed bump could have health consequences?
