My iMac DV 400 seems to "think" a headphone jack is in use when it's not. If I plug headphones into either jack, I get sound, but I can't get the built-in speakers to produce any sound when the jacks are empty.

If I open the sound preferences in OS 9, it shows headphones as being plugged in.

Is there some way to tell the computer to use the built-in speakers?

This happened w/ my ibook, cept i had a interface(for music recording) and was listening through the interface when all this happened. When i unplugged everything there was no sound comming out of my speakers. all i did was do a restart and obviously when the "apple chime" comes back on the sound is working. i dont know if this helps but it might help.
one day you are going to wake up and
live.
