IBM shows 8-way Power5 MCM-chip with 144MB cache
Will probably be released in early 2004, biggest difference between the power4 and power5 is SMT (Simultaneous Multi Treading) which is quite similar to the hyperthreading of Intel. because of this technique, the OS will see 16 instead of 8 microprocessors .

now, where do I learn IBM songs?

Actual conversation between UCLA and Stanford during a login on early Internet - U: I'm going to type an L! Did you get an L? S: I got one-one-four. L! U:Did you get the O? S: One-one-seven. U: <types G> S: The computer just crashed.

Too bad it probably requires it's own powerplant to juice it. The good news is you can heat your home AND hot water with it.....

A better question would be:

What does something like that cost?

or

Hook a brother up? ;-)

Seriously though, what do you think the Apple version will feature? And when do you think it will be introduced?

Damn! I want one.

We'll never see THAT chip in a Mac unless apple decides to get into high end servers... and I doubt that. We'll see features from that in the PPC 980. Who knows instead of dual processors we might just see dual cores.

HEhe, make that "instead of quad processor dual cores, we might see dual cores".

You bring up a good point. From a cost basis, is makes perfect sense for Apple to go dual core CPU vs dual CPU's. They have been dumping soooo much money into making the OS Dual Proc (and beyond) aware. Promoting DP use for developers, etc.... The ability to crank out a single CPU with dual cores would do wonders for the bottom line.

Ummmm.... dual core processors act EXACTLY like dual processors to the operating system. All dual core means is that you have two processors on one chip instead of two processors on two chips.

No sh*t? Really?

Dumbass, what's cheaper? Making a dual processor card and buying 2 CPU's from Mot or IBM, Or..... Just buying a single, dual core CPU from IBM? Those dollars add up when you factor in the thousands of machines they sell.
