I found on on ebay and I was thinking of getting it, but I was wondering are there any issues that are common to these systems like fan noise or the like?

thank you.

The fan is quite loud but I've found it to be a reliable machine.

The fan noise is constant. I have the computer in one corner of my bedroom upstairs. I can hear the fan going when I'm at the bottom of the stairs. And I don't have a very big house, either. It's by far the loudest computer I've ever owned, and I'm looking forward to a quieter G5 at some point. Too bad you're not in the Boston area, I'd sell you mine.

I own one of these machines and have been using it for 2 years now. The machine is quieter than the mirrored door (MDD) macs and I really have not heard a loud fan noise on mine. It is a rock solid machine and I have never had any problems with it. I increased my ram to 896 mbs and am extremely satisfied with it's performance. Hope this helps.

that bad eh? This worries me. It's so weird how some people say it's fine, well others say it's a problem.

But since apple had fan replacements it must have been a problem.

So are there any G4 that are quiet or only the ones that have been modified?

Would Tekserve in NYC fix this problem? How the tools to do it?

The fan noise issue is relative. I've heard comments about the 933's fan noise, but I have never thought it was a problem.

I've had my Quicksilver 867 since they were released in 2001. It's a great computer. I've put in a new video card, an extra hard drive, and another gig of memory. It's a great computer - never any problems. I don't have problems with the fan noise.

Well I'm not buying what people say about the fan being THAT loud. I've owned a dual 1.25MDD, a dual 800, and now a QS 867, and this one is easily the quietest. The computer is on the floor right next to my door. If I walk about 3 feet beyond my door in the other room, I can't hear it at all. It's very quiet. Course, not Dell quiet, but nothing distracting.

I enjoy this one very much. I wouldn't mind have a dual system back, but have no real use for a second processor at the time, but you really notice it with quite a few apps running
