I was given a B&W 400 and it runs ok in 10.2 but I'm thinking about getting the 900MHz upgrade for it for $250. I've already scrounged up an 80GB 7200 RPM HD, 32MB Radeon 7000 PCI, and 1GB of RAM for it. I guess I'm wondering what kind of performance I can expect with all that plus a 900MGz G3 CPU. I figure I'll be using the machine as a server and general use workstation.
Any ideas?

If the machine was free, then why not? I think you'll see a nice performance boost.

There's gonna be a huge difference between an G3/400 and a G3/900. If you can afford it and want to run OS X then you'll need it for sure. OS X just ain't fun with a slow Mac.

Can I have your old processor if you get an upgrade?
I'm still running a 233MHz G3 (Beige).

Yes, get the upgrade. It's a good price.
