I ordered 512MB of ram from

http://buyaib.com/buyaib/51sdramworon.html

and chose the "good" due to the fact that apple sent cl3 256mb with the computer and after reading that ram is ram at the following links:

http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...pc100+ram+imac

and

http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...pc100+ram+imac

After installing the ram via the directions at apple's website. The iMac doesn't recognize the module in either slot. It snaps into place like it should with no problem. I assume it doesn't make a difference if the ram is shorter than the stock ram (I assume that means its low profile).

By the way I am running OS 10.2.6 with boot ROM (firmware) 4.1.9f1

The website says the ram is 512MB PC133/100 SDRAM DIMM,168Pin ,64X64, 7 or 7.5 Ns,3.3V, Non ECC. Non-Parity,Unbuffered -with Lifetime WTY. 95% compatible with ALL Athlon + Intel Chipsets. Is the problem the 95% compatible with all athlon and intel chipsets?? I thought ram was ram??

If it makes any difference the ram I bought says:

a-tex
521GH16XPA
0316AIB

I look forward to your replies,

Michael

I contacted www.buyaid.com and they were quite prepared for my problem. Apparently, the "good" quality ram is "high density" and does not work with 99% of computers. So I get to return it (minus 15% restocking fee).

Oh well, I learned my lesson about CHEAP RAM from small companies.

The worst part of course is that high density RAM is super cheap compared to low density. I see 512MB sticks at $30. 64x64 or 64x4.
