I like them both.

What I don't like is that both have no SD option.

So they are equal there.

I have a 600 ibook G3 now and I love it, but at the same time, the screen might be a bit too small as I spend so much time using it.

The main things I do are type (obviosuly, but I"m a writer), send e-mails, play on the internet.

Sometimes I edit using Final Cut Pro.

But other than that, either computer would be fine for me needs.

I just feel the iMac screen is brighter and sharper than the ibook and it might be easier on my eyes.

I rarely use my ibook to travel with... i bought it mainly cuz I like the small size for desk space issues and it looks nicer to me than a desktop.

The only thing I don't like about the iMac is the outside of the screen... it seems to reflect light easily, like a piece of glass.

Maybe it's just the lights above at stores that make it look odd, and it might not be a problem at my house at all.

I like the fact that the imac can have more ram, but then again I guess the ibook can put in over a gig even if it doesn't say so.

the 17inch imac, I just don't like the look. It's made cheaper looking to me. The font of the words imac are written different. it's very odd.

And it has that plastic glass over the entire screen and it way to reflective to me.

It's tough. any thougths?

If you don't really need a portable, the iMac will offer much better value (larger hard drive, much faster). But if you do need to be portable you can't really expect to lug an iMac around easily

The new iBook G4 is very good value, especially now that the base model has a combo.

the imac has a bigger screen and it's brighter too. Nice for internet surfing.

But the new ibook keyboard is better than before.

Both good decisions.

does anyone know if they've improved the LCD on the iBook G4's? I'm spoiled with my bright, sharp iMac LCD... it's like night and day vs. an iBook G3!

otherwise the iBook G4 looks like a great value if you want the portability.

to me it looks slightly better, but my ibook g3 seems just as bright as the ibook g4.

the iMac LCD is by far the best one that apple makes in my opinion. It is so bright and easy to read.

Even better than their top of the line display in terms of brightness. I mean after all, aren't they newer?

So you will get use to it, but if you don't need a laptop, I'd say stick with the imac.
