Anyone out there using their G5 with MySQL? I am considering moving some of our MySQL database cluster nodes over to G5's. I am just about to order three more Dell 2650's (or 1750's) to add to our database cluster and would like to see some tests with G5's but haven't been able to find any.

MySQL would need to be able to access a minimum of 6Gb RAM. I would be interested in seeing how much memory is actually supported under OSX.

I can tell you that a dual Xeon 2.8 (Dell 2650) with 6Gb RAM peaks out at around 2,600 questions/second on a live production machine. I am running RH7 on these machines with RAID 5 on U180 and MySQL 3.x currently.

The new MySQL setup that I am getting ready to put live is using a dual Dell 2600 failover cluster for the primary node. This will replicate to the slaves in the cluster. The slaves will obviously only see reads. Currently I have a couple Dell 2650's that I can use as slave nodes.

I would love to hear if you are running MySQL on a G5!!!

You do realise MySQL4 is a hell of a lot faster?

I run MySQL on a G4 - but am right in the middle of considering a G5...

Yes, our new cluster is already running 4. I don't remember the exact number but I think we were able to average something like ~11,000 inserts/second while doing our import with 4 on a dual 3.06 Xeon using the internal drives (U320 in Raid 0+1).

I think I am going to go ahead and order 4-6 Dell 1750's and a single G5 to see how the G5 compares to the Xeon's.
