I'm using a Dual 1Ghz G4 MDD PowerMac - got it from the Apple Store in September and I've loved it. No problems at all, but I've noticed that every once in a while I hear a clicking sound followed by an electronic beep. It's coming from the back of the machine and I'm pretty sure there's nothing else back there beside the PowerMac that could be making the noise. Anyone have any idea what that might be?

Thanks!

That's your hard drive. Mine does it roughly every 24 hours. Something with IBM (and now Hitachi), they do this. Though the IBM 60 gig that came with my dual 867 has a pretty audible beep. But the Hitachi 80 gig in the 1.2Ghz SP MDD still makes the same sound at first, but no beep at the end. Don't worry, it's not going bad or anything.

I figured it might be something fairly normal - just wanted to make sure.

I won't worry about it now.

Thanks!

No idea. LOL There was a thread regarding that at xlr8yourmac.com and it was just tracked down to the IBM/Hitachi (they bought IBMs hard disk division) hard drives and that was it. Not sure what it is, it just does it.

The last I heard it means something is wrong with the HD.. but I'll take your word for that lol.

Then again before it was a loud clicking noise. if it happens DURING use.. and is started witha pause on your comp, that might not be a good thing.
Aloha
