I am curious. Do I need to by a specific Mac video card, or can I go buy an ATI 9600 from CompUSA or Frys and plug it in and it works?

It needs to be Mac specific. Your choices are limited to the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro and Radeon 9800 Pro. Mac NVIDIA cards are not sold at retail, so you'll need to turn to eBay or Mac resellers.

nVidia GeForce4 MX 32 MB DDR - about $55.

nVidia GeForce4 Ti4600 128 MB DDR - $250.

ATI Radeon 8500 64 MB DDR - $200.

ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 64 MB DDR - $150.
