The thing I like about the eMac is price...
sometimes the screen looks good to me, other times it looks like it is too set into the frame of the machine.
From eMac users how would you rate the computer and screen compared to the iMac.
Again, it's the new price that has a hold over me.

emac screen = 7 out of 10
imac screen = 10 out of 10
thats just my opinion..i used to have a flat panel imac the original 800mhz superdrive but had to sell it...the screen on it was sweet. the emac screen is fine for me but i'd take the imac over it anyday. but when i had my imac it also didnt have any dead pixels that is something you have to worry about...i dont know if crt's have dead pixels?????

The iMac is a better computer because it has such a better screen. However, it's not worth $500 more, especially since a 15" LCD is under $300 these days. In fact, you could just get an eMac and a 15" LCD, do the spanning hack (which works on the eMac) and have TWO monitors (LCD and CRT) for less than the price of an iMac.

But why pay for an extra LCD monitor (which would come within $200.00 of the diff between the emac and imac), when you can get a faster machine, sleeker footprint, and overall better looking computer? You get what you pay for...I'd pay a bit more to get the whole package all in one nice setup rather than having 2 monitors and a big white egg shaped computer on my desk.
Just my opinion, of course!

2.5 Ghz MacBook Pro, 2GB Ram, 250 GB HD...major upgrade replacement for my recently sold iBook.
1.25 Ghz iMac, 17", 768 MB Ram, 160GB HD, SuperDrive, Airport Extreme..still a great desktop machine!

Yeah, doing the spanning hack and using an external monitor probably isn't the best thing in the world... for that much I definitely would just buy the iMac.
Actually, if I were to pick up a consumer desktop right now I'd get the discontinued 800 MHz Combo iMac, which is about $1000. Yeah, it's slower than the 1 GHz eMac and more expensive, but it's cheaper and it's just as cool as the slightly faster, current iMacs. For $1000 they're a great deal.

The 1 GHz eMac also has the SuperDrive, which allows you to burn DVDs. I'm planning to order one myself next week.
