I have a B&W 450/uwscici, with a ATI-Pro Rage, is there an update card/cards that i could look for, or be guided towards, so that I can get my machice to take at vantage of Quartz Extreme - And of course I want to spend as little as possible, planning to update in early March '04. Also, I don't do allot of intense graphics, but we do have a small biz and use AppleWorks and Stone's Create to do a few things. Thanks for your recommendations.

The only card that I know which will provide Quartz Extreme support is the ATI 7000. QE support is provided via a software hack. I can't remember the name of it though. Check out http://www.xlr8yourmac.com, they have info about it. HTH

Yep, the Radeon 7000 is about your only option (new retail) as far as covering the video card requirements. The PCI video bus, which was only changed to AGP on the second release of the G4's, was deemed too slow (and probably with good reason from what I've read) to support the QE technology. There is a hack available, that I think is called PCI Extreme, to override the AGP bus check. I've read some mixed reviews with that hack due to bus overloading, or some such thing.

Well.......

Ive got the Radeon 7000, the PCI extreme hack, and an overclocked 550mhz G4(to 650) upgrade card running in my smurf machine.....notta problemo

If you're gonna get a new machine (DP G5?) in '04 anyway, dont bother with spending the upgrade $$, unless you plan to keep the old one too......
