My B&W has two IDE disc, it is a rev. B so no problem here, disc one is a IBM 60 GB (7200 rpm, 2 MB cache), second is a WD 80 GB (7200 rpm, 8 MB cache), the trouble is that the WD is noisy, too noisy when it is spining, so I would like to put the WD at sleep instantly, are there any app to do it ?

Note that I have no sleep issue with the Western Digital and my B&W, I can put the Yosemite to sleep every time I want.

I don't have a great answer but maybe try an app that will unmount the drive. That should get it to stop spinning and then make an applescript to have it remount and put that in the dock for easy access.
Good luck.

Hi SSharon,

I found an app that works fine in Mac OS 9, I can choose to put the WD a sleep or spin down. I am still looking for a Mac OS X app, but meantime I use a trick, put the Mac to sleep, wake up again and the noisy WD remains silent. To unmount it with Disk Utility does not work.
